In 2002, DEWALT hosted the Million Dollar Challenge, a nationwide competition where contractors and racing enthusiasts competed to drive five screws into a wooden plank in the shortest time possible. The challenge began in March and culminated in October at the Phoenix International Raceway, coinciding with a NASCAR event. Over 50,000 participants competed in more than 450 events held at retail locations, jobsites, and trackside venues. The competition narrowed down to 16 regional finalists, each earning a 2003 Chevrolet Express Van equipped with an Adrian Steel bin package, $2,000 worth of DEWALT tools, a Carhartt contractor jacket, and a trip for two to Phoenix for the final showdown.

Among the regional finalists was our own Joe Fodera from Somerville, Massachusetts, who secured his spot with a time of 10.23 seconds. Joe practiced for the competition with the help of his kids – the best coaches he could ever have!
The DEWALT Million Dollar Challenge not only showcased the speed and skill of contractors nationwide but also highlighted DEWALT’s commitment to engaging with its user community through innovative and exciting events.
